Lessons from the Protestant Reformation for Today’s Islamic World

The Muslim world is in crisis – politically, socially and economically Islam need of a reformation. Drawing on insights from the Protestant Reformation, this article argues that two major reasons for success Reformation lay fact dissident voices such as Martin Luther were protected developments like printing press increased literacy thereby empowering ordinary people to read Bible their own without Church serving mediator conveying revelation masses. This helped break monopoly Catholic Church. At same time, allowed views reformers be disseminated wider audience creating widespread sympathies given excesses Whilst shares many objective realities period leading Europe’s reality are provided with little protection political elites illiteracy prevents reformist ideas gaining traction audience.
